Glober & Partners together with LJM Communications select the “Arche Noe” orphanage in Burundi for their 2008 Christmas donation
Luxembourg
The year is coming to a close and in particular the last two months have brought about economic pressures beyond what many of us imagined possible. Yet, in many countries where economic pressure is the norm, the global financial crisis is causing increased difficulties for many innocent people who already had a fragile existence.
A number of months ago we became aware of the work that two sisters, Suavis Vandeweerd and Gloriosa Nahimana, have been engaged in for almost 15 years.
Suavis teaches French in Luxembourg and Gloriosa lives in Burundi, Africa. Following the civil war, Gloriosa started a children’s orphanage which now supports around 100 children. The sisters believe that the children must become self sufficient and to this end they are taught sewing and crafts. Suavis sells the children’s hand crafts here in Luxembourg to raise much needed funds for the orphanage. A few years ago, Gloriosa was diagnosed with cancer, so now as well as the worry about her poor health, she has the constant concern of what will become of the children. Suavis has indicated that even the smallest contribution is a relief from the increasing financial pressure that they are experiencing, furthermore, it is for them a glimmer of hope.
Our own concerns fade in comparison.
